Open invitation to take part in Heathfield Road Runners Virtual Lockdown 2 Challenge

(November 09, 2020)

We have been speaking with Heathfield Road Runners over the last week. Like many in the running community, the news of Chris's passing was a great shock. All at the club send their support and are thinking of Chris's family, friends and running buddies.

To mark their respects, they have decided to donate half of the money received from their planned LockDown 2 event (see details below) to the Mountain Rescue organisation. They have also asked if  HHH would like to take part and field a virtual team.

We would need to field a team of six (though less is possible) and aim to run / walk a total of 400km by Sunday 29 November. To support the charity effort, each team member would be asked to donate up to £10 to take part. You even get a medal, the cost of which is being covered by HRR, so all money donated goes to charity.

If you fancy forming a team, please let Andy Hind know via the Club whatsapp or drop him an email ([email protected]) - he is happy to coordinate a team and keep track of your distances.

All the details from HRR are include below:

Heathfield Road Runners - Lockdown 2

Running (or walking) because we can and raising money for two amazing charities.

Although we are restricted to exercising outdoors with our family or a single friend there is nothing which says we can’t form “virtual teams”. So our challenge to you is to organise or join a team of up to six people. Any six. Family members. Local friends. Friends from other clubs. People you haven’t met before. The more the merrier. That team, between them, must run and/or walk 400km (or 248.5 miles) between Sunday 8th and Sunday 29th November. With a maximum of 20k (12 miles) per team per day. For those that need a more challenging challenge, enter a smaller team!!

We understand that times are tricky so are asking for a donation per team, not exceeding £10 per team member. Heathfield Road Runners are very kindly supplying medals for every runner and all the money raised will be split equally between Walking With The Wounded (who were due to be doing their own 400km in three weeks challenge in Oman but have had to postpone due to covid19) and Mountain Rescue who do such an amazing job under difficult conditions.

If you can’t make up a full team or are daunted by the distance please set your own lockdown challenge and join in. We want to include as many people as possible. Be inventive. How about a relay? That family walk counts!! Please post below if you are looking for team members or wish to join a team.

All those who take part will receive a medal.

Team leaders to keep track of distance covered and let us know when you have completed the challenge (we might even set you another one!!).

Please share your photos and favourite routes.

Details of how to make your donation to follow - we are keen to get going and haven’t quite resolved everything!!

Special prizes for the best virtual team name and the best photo.

Please observe all covid19 regulations.

Happy running and walking!! And thank you!!
